The manufacturer Modos soon wants to launch several devices based on electronic paper, with the company presenting the three projects again in a current article - and asking for support.

In fact, according to the manufacturer, at least 50,000 customers must be interested in buying the products, and interested parties can take part in a survey and apply for the Community Pilot Program.

The portfolio should specifically include the Paper Laptop, among other things, a notebook, which should also convince with an open source and open hardware approach. Furthermore, the team wants to create its own developer board, with which Maker should have particularly easy access to E Ink displays. As a standalone monitor, the Paper Monitor should offer a high level of comfort when reading long texts, for example.

In principle, the three devices should each be quite specialized devices - especially since there are already corresponding products on the market. With the ThinkBook Plus Gen2, for example, Lenovo already offers a laptop with an E Ink display, and Dasung has a display with an E Ink panel, which is expensive, mind you.

At least the open source approach could be a unique selling point of the products designed by Modos. However, the number of 50,000 interested customers seems quite ambitious against the background of the technology-related limitations of e-ink technology, which should not be underestimated.
